Picnic Quilt progress

I've been busy completing the blanket-stitching on each of the basket blocks for the picnic quilt. (something to stitch at night whilst 'watching' the tv.) There are fifteen basket blocks in total. Now that I have finished all of the hand-stitching, it was time to machine stitch them into the quilt top. Here in this photo, I am adding the inner border of red and white check fabric.

It is very colourful don't you think? (and I've used up lots of  odd bod bits of tartan/plaid fabrics that I had for ages) I'm not sure what fabric I'll use for the backing yet, probably a dark fabric.
I think it will be just the thing to take along on picnics and family gatherings.
Happy stitching,
Sandi x

I love the bright look of your quilt. Many of your plaid fabrics look like my stash; I recycle men's shirts for my quilts.

So bright and happy! I love it! Wish I had had such a fabulous picnic rug today when we went for a picnic. I got really sunburnt too, so I'm all sore and covered with aloe vera! lol I like the border you added. Ever thought of putting a pocket on each corner to put a heavy rock into so that the wind doesn't disrupt the blanket?
